The Cleveland Museum of Art celebrated its centennial year in 2016. To prepare for its second century, the Museum recently completed a $320 million, 8-year renovation and expansion project that added exhibition space; renovated existing classrooms, lecture and performance halls; and built the expansive glass-enclosed Ames Family Atrium for public events (at 39,000 square feet, it is Cleveland. The Cleveland Museum of Art is an art museum in Cleveland, Ohio, located in the Wade Park District, in the University Circle neighborhood on the city's east side. Internationally renowned for its substantial holdings of Asian and Egyptian art, the museum houses a diverse permanent collection of more than 61,000 works of art from around the world. The museum provides general admission free to the public. With a $755 million endowment, it is the fourth-wealthiest art museum in the United States.
Since the Cleveland Museum of Art opened in 1916 it has sought to present the art of the major cultures of the world. Despite emphasis on the Western tradition, with major collections of European and American art, Japanese, Chinese, and Indian art are particularly well represented. The museum also cultivated the art of its time with exhibitions of contemporary art starting in 1921 and annual exhibitions of contemporary regional art. Its scholarship is supported by an exceptional art reference library, and regular programs in the performing arts make it a cultural center for the region.
The museum publishes exhibition and collection catalogues and a monthly magazine for members. From 1914 to 2005 the museum published regular scholarly papers on objects in the collection, until 1994 in the Bulletin, and thereafter in Cleveland Studies in the History of Art.

We may not be number one, but considering the competition it's hard not be satisfied with the #2 spot.The Cleveland Museum of Art was named the second best museum in the U.S. The CMA was only topped by the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, which isn't entirely a surprise.
Here's how they came up with the rankings.According to the US government, there are upwards of 35,000 museums in America. For comparison, there are about 13,000 Starbucks across the country.Using data provided by Foursquare, INSIDER ranked the top 25 museums in America.The National Museum of the Air Force in Dayton, another dynamite Ohio location, came in 11th place.
